Standard Granite Slab Sizes & Yield Guide

Understanding granite slab dimensions helps you select blocks that fit your project layout perfectly, reducing visual seams and cutting waste.

6 × 3 ft (18 sqft)

Standard size best suited for bathroom vanity counters, utility areas, small balconies, window sills, and step risers. Excellent for tight spaces where handling full-sized slabs is restricted.

7 × 3 ft (21 sqft)

Ideal for compact L-shaped kitchens, breakfast counters, pooja room platforms, and stair treads. Provides enough length for single-seam configurations on moderate cabinet runs.

8 × 3 ft (24 sqft)

Most Popular

The sweet-spot dimension for standard straight kitchen countertops. Offers maximum length coverage with minimal joints, ensuring seamless visual movement across the countertop surface.

Calculating Material Yield & Waste

When planning granite countertops, you must account for cutting loss and grain direction. If you place a cooktop cutout in the middle of an 8x3 ft slab, the cut-out section is discarded, but the grain matching on either side is preserved.

Gangsaw Slabs: For large residential flooring, commercial lobbies, and seamless waterfall kitchen islands, we supply large gangsaw slabs exceeding 9 × 5 ft. These slabs showcase full veining dynamics and bookmatching opportunities.

Width & Backsplashes

A standard kitchen counter depth is 2 feet (24 inches). Buying a 3-foot wide slab leaves a 12-inch strip. This leftover material is perfectly sized for 4-inch vertical backsplashes and front-edge bullnose double-molds, minimizing waste.

Vein Consistency

When joining multiple slabs for an L-shape or U-shape counter, check the direction of the specks or veins. Always cut from consecutive slabs cut from the same block to ensure the flow is uniform across the seams.
