Granite Buying Guide

This guide walks you through slab grades, finish tradeoffs, pricing drivers, and the showroom checklist we use for Bangalore projects.

Step 1: Define the use case

Kitchens demand low-porosity slabs with stain resistance. Flooring prioritizes slip resistance and thickness. Wall cladding benefits from lighter slabs and consistent patterning.

Step 2: Select the finish

Polished surfaces reflect light and are easiest to clean. Honed finishes reduce glare and hide micro-scratches. Leather and flamed finishes add grip for outdoor or wet zones.

Step 3: Understand slab grades

Grade is driven by uniformity, fissures, resin fills, and color movement. Higher grades look consistent and require fewer joins, which lowers long-term maintenance risk.

Step 4: Plan installation

Measure site dimensions early, confirm edge profiles, and plan seam placement. Proper substrate leveling and adhesive selection prevent crack propagation.

Showroom checklist

  • Inspect two slabs from the same lot for consistent movement and color tone.
  • Check for resin fills, fissures, and edge finish quality under direct light.
  • Confirm thickness, polish quality, and slip resistance for wet areas.
  • Ask for stock photos and delivery timelines before you finalize quantities.

Price signals

Price changes with origin, thickness, finish, and rarity. Always compare slab size and grade before comparing only the per-sq-ft rate.

Maintenance expectations

Seal high-porosity stones and clean with pH-neutral solutions. Regular resealing improves stain resistance and keeps finishes crisp.

Alternative materials

Quartz offers uniformity and low maintenance. Marble provides softer veining but needs more care. Granite balances durability with natural movement.
